Specialised child respite

A calm, planned pathway for time away from home.

Treasure Disability Care welcomes SSRC and short-term respite enquiries from Tamworth families, carers, support coordinators and child-serving professionals. Every enquiry is reviewed individually so the environment, staffing and care plan are suitable for the child.

Treasure Disability Care is listed by the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian for SSRC services for children and young people aged 5–17, with Hunter New England included in its published service area. An OCG listing is not the same as accreditation or a guarantee that a placement is available.

Behaviour and Sensory Needs

Family and Carer Communication

Community and Daily Activities

Age-appropriate routines and activities shaped around the child’s interests, goals, culture, safety and approved support plan.

Important distinction

SSRC is regulated child care, not ordinary babysitting.

In NSW, care away from a child’s usual home for three or more nights in a seven-day period may be SSRC when it is for respite, behaviour support or funded by the NDIS. Providers must comply with the Child Safe Scheme and SSRC Code of Practice.

  • Child safety and wellbeing come before placement speed
  • Parent or authorised decision-maker consent is required
  • Funding and service agreements must be confirmed
  • Health, medication, behaviour and emergency plans must be current
  • Placement recording and longer-stay oversight rules apply

Questions

Tamworth SSRC and child respite FAQs

What is SSRC in NSW?

Specialised Substitute Residential Care is a regulated arrangement where a parent agrees for a child to receive care away from their usual home for three or more nights in a seven-day period for respite, behaviour support or NDIS-funded care.

Does Treasure Disability Care accept SSRC referrals for Tamworth?

Families, carers and professionals can submit Tamworth SSRC and child respite enquiries. Acceptance depends on a child-safe assessment, consent, funding, suitable staffing, the care environment and current capacity.

Can the NDIS fund short-term respite for a child?

The NDIS may fund short-term respite for a participant under 18 in limited circumstances where disability-related support needs are greater than typical for their age and the support helps sustain the family caring arrangement. It does not replace ordinary parenting or babysitting.

What information is needed for a child respite referral?

Useful information includes the child’s age, goals, requested dates, consent, funding, daily routines, communication, medication, health needs, behaviour support information, risks, cultural needs and emergency contacts.

Is an OCG listing the same as accreditation?

No. The Office of the Children’s Guardian explains that a public provider listing does not necessarily mean the provider is accredited or has been assessed as meeting every legislative requirement.
